by Jamie Narehood
Mignon McLaughlin said “A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person”.  On February 12, you’ll have the opportunity to do just that. Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum and Ripley’s Red Trains in St. Augustine invite you to join their attempt at breaking a Guinness World Record when they host what they hope will be the world’s largest wedding vows renewal ceremony. The event will be held at Warden Castle / Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum in St. Augustine. Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has held the title since June 2009, and this is your opportunity to put that spark back in your marriage and to help St. Augustine shine!
There will be carnations for the wives and environment-friendly confetti cups for the husbands. Kim Kiff, event initiator and general manager of Ripley’s St. Augustine Attractions, stated that there is no dress code, but the first 20 couples to register in wedding attire will enjoy a VIP spot at the castle’s front door where the MC will perform the ceremony; the next 40 registrants who present in wedding garb will take space on the coveted second floor balcony, and the remaining registrants will be staged at ground level.
Ceremony MC will be Ripley’s own Ralf Ingwersen, director of Ripley’s ghost tours and a host on Ripley Radio. Before joining Ripley’s in 2005, Ralph spent years as a broadcaster, to include entertaining listeners for a decade as the morning show host on rock station 96 WAVE in Charleston, SC. A trilingual ceremony, vows will be recited in English, Spanish, and sign language.
Following the ceremony, confetti cannons will be launched from above, and the love-confirmed couples will enjoy a celebratory cake and exclusive complimentary train tour of the historic bayfront and plaza areas. Photographers will be on site to take group and individual photos that will be available online post event.
