Historic Ship Sets Sail from Puerto Rico. Destination St Augustine FL
El Galeón, a detailed replica of ships that brought Spanish explorers and settlers to Florida after Juan Ponce de León claimed the land for Spain in April 1513, is a floating museum and a living-history testament to the mariners who forged Florida’s history. The ship departed from Puerto Rico, where Ponce de Leon was governor, and is being sailed in much the same way his crew did. Visitors will learn about Florida history and sense the spirit of adventure that drove those Spanish mariners to explore such distant lands.
The ship will be docked and open to the public at the St. Augustine FL City Marina from May 23 thru July 23, 2013. $15 pp.
